Million Dollar Race Winner To Feature In Rotorua
14 Oct 2010

The winner of the $1-million Telegraph Handicap in Wellington earlier this year is set to make a start at Arawa Park this Saturday in one of Rotorua’s feature races of the year.
Waikato-based gelding Vonusti won the Group 1 race in January, and will be part of a strong field in the Lion Red Plate, a weight-for-age event over 1200 metres, the same distance he won over at Trentham.
The race is one of two feature events as part of Rotorua Plate Day, one of the biggest on the local racing calendar.
The second feature is the Platinum Homes New Zealand Rotorua Plate, which will have the horse known as ‘the peoples champion’ as part of its line-up.  Sir Slick, who has earnt over $2-million in his seven year career, will be one of the favourites to take the $45,000 race.
The full day includes an 11-race programme, starting at 12.10, with free admission, free children’s entertainment, and live music throughout the day.
Rotorua Plate Day is the second ‘Spring Carnival’ meeting for the TRAC Group, following a successful opening last Saturday at the Team Wealleans Matamata Cup.

TRAC Racing Rotorua has completed the construction of a brand new facility on course
25 Jun 2010

TRAC Racing Rotorua has completed the construction of a brand new facility on course to permanently house one Rotorua’s oldest chartered clubs... “The Rotorua Club.”

The development involved completely gutting the middle floor of the Members Grandstand at Arawa Park followed by construction of a brand new Kitchen, Toilet & Bar areas, new ‘Walk In Chiller’ along with 3 connecting lounge areas and a gaming room.

“The Rotorua Club” will continue to operate 7 days a week with the addition of a modern TAB and will serve as the Members Lounge on racedays.

The new facility has top quality furnishings and the bathrooms have also received similar treatment with granite vanity tops, tiled floors & walls and porcelain fittings to equal any 5 star hotel. The use of granite continues through to the raceday Members Lounge for both the Bar/Café Servery and even the Tote!

While “The Rotorua Club” is a separate entity the reciprocal arrangement with Racing Rotorua allows all TRAC Club members to enjoy the facilities both on racedays and any other day that they may be in Rotorua.

With construction now complete “The Rotorua Club” is awaiting final permits to be granted before the ‘big move’ and expects to in their new premises at Arawa Park in the next month or so. However, the venue is already being used as the Rotorua Members Lounge on racedays. So, if you are an existing TRAC Club member or you are thinking of joining, be sure to visit this wonderful new facility at Arawa Park on their next raceday.
